I was hoping to branch out from the Montara II, but after trying the Sugarpine and Taraval, I'm sticking with the Montara - can walk all day every day on paved surfaces, cobblestone streets, grass - no better shoe out there!

I live in Asia and it's a challenge looking for hiking shoes for narrow feet. I needed to replace my North Face Vindicators and the Ahnu Montara II was recommended to me by REI, so I took a risk and bought them after trying them out at the store. I wore the shoes when I walked 124kms in Europe earlier this year, and just put them through 100kms of the Via Francigena a couple of weeks ago. Great shoes -- no pain, no blisters, no need for ortho insoles nor tape. The shoes held up well through mud, rain, dirt tracks and paved paths. My only issue was that the cushioning could be improved when navigating asphalt and old Roman stone roads, since I started to feel the hard surface through the soles after a while. Otherwise, I love the shoes and am quite happy with them. Yes, they managed to look good even with mud on them :)

Comments about Ahnu Montara II WP:

It's a real bummer that you don't make size 11.5 in these. I'm usually a size 11 in most brands but I ordered 3 pairs of Ahnus in 11 and sadly I have to return them all. It's frustrating to not be able to buy good shoes because my size isn't available!
