Comments about Hurricane XLT:

During a visit to a sporting goods store my favorite sandal of another manufacturer was out of stock so I purchased this Teva alternatively. That was over 3 years ago. Today my Velcro has unstitched itself from the strap and in need of repair. I thought I could simply replace the shoes but I see they're on backorder for my size. I am out of luck. In the years I've had the sandals they've been nothing short of spectacular. From Mexico hiking, beaches, snorkeling (and I must say they are perfect diving shoes),fishing, boating, camping, stomping out camp fires, especially accidental ones... this shoe is my "go to" sandal. It has endured the most extreme places and held up to the task. Teva deserves recognition in this department because I can go through sandals, boots, and hiking shoes, you name it, in record time but not these. My only gripe is the method in which the Velcro is attached to the strap. It is stitched on around the perimeter and is certainly the weakest area of the sandal. I say this because the Velcro has always been an issue, with the thread slowly peeling away, leaving black thread hanging over the top of my foot, irritating me, I knew it was a matter of time. Glue works as a temporary repair but still, the Velcro has always been an issue since the shoes were first broke in. The Velcro is now hanging by a few threads. Other than this the shoes are still in great shape even though the sole is mostly worn. The secure fit the shoe has is a helpful hindrance. On many occasions, such as being knee deep clay at the Gulf of Mexico flats, where it's low tide and the earth is exposed, while walking across the deep clay my shoe came out with my foot every time. Thanks Teva! No amount of vacuum could rip this shoe from my foot thanks to the genius who strategically placed the rear strap above the heel and on the Achilles tendon. That position has been a struggle with me on many occasions though. These shoes are clearly designed to stay on your feet, which is a problem at times. Sometimes sharp sea shells get caught between your foot and sandal, fire ants, hot coals, and other insects, making you want to quickly remedy the problem. Not with these shoes! They have to be undone. Once while holding on to a tree to keep from falling off a mountain, I really needed to use my left foot to pry off my sandal but couldn't. I had to endure the fire ants until I was able to reach a place to get my sandals off. Ants usually don't bother me but they get under the strap and thats when they get irritated and bite. Being barefoot really helps prevent this. On the other hand there are also times when I just want to go 20 feet but I'm barefoot. I can't just slip them on so I've learned to close the ankle strap but not have it strapped to the shoe. It's still uncomfortable but I manage and I don't need t carry a second set with me. Overall the sandals are incredible and almost a perfect shoe. I do wish there was another way to have the sandals be more like slippers when they're not needed for the extreme but again, it's manageable.

    Comments about Hurricane XLT:

I wear these every day for my work hobbies, casual and semi formal wear (not that my wife always approves!). I live in Oklahoma. When the weather is cold and icy, I add a pair of socks.

I've had many a pair, and I have worn them so much the soles separated. Recently, I actually wore holes in the soles (too bad, they were just getting really comfortable).

    Great product.

They sure are! Using a bristled brush, scrub the topsole from heel to toe with an anti-bacterial soap under water pressure to wash away any dirt that may be in the grooves. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry out of direct heat or sunlight.

      Q:

      I have a wide foot 10 1/2. Will size 10 be appropriate?
Asked on 5/12/2013 by Bill from Cherry Hill, NJ

      1 answer

      • CUSTOMER CARE

        A:

This style is made in a "D" width and is fully adjustable. The footbed does tend to run slightly long, therefore we typically recommend ordering either your typical shoe size or 1/2 size down if you are in between sizes.
